Daniel F. Oppliger was born in St. Louis, MO, in 1954. He obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls in 1976. Following this, he spent a few years teaching Agriculture and Science at the high school level. After relocating to El Paso, TX, in 1986, he transitioned into the travel industry, eventually becoming the owner of a travel agency. During his time in graduate school, he developed valuable research skills, which he utilized to compile over 2,000 documents pertaining to the Garcia family. This extensive research took him to locations such as Shiloh, New Orleans, Pensacola, and St. Louis over several years.
