Footsteps of Paul Tour and Sailing Cruise
This Footsteps Paul tour traces St. Paul though Turkey from his birthplace in Tarsus, to the early churches in Cappadocia, most of the seven churches of Revelation, and a delightful Blue Voyage sailing cruise in the waters Paul sailed three times.
Day -01) DEPART USA FOR YOUR FOOTSTEPS OF PAUL TOUR
Day 00) ISTANBUL
Arrive in Istanbul. Transfer to hotel. Take it easy and get a good night’s sleep. (Note: flights arrive in the mid-afternoon to as late as 11:00 pm)
Day 01)ISTANBUL Visit St.Sophia Museum which is one of the worlds greatest architectural marvels and a designated World Heritage site. Visit Blue Mosque with its beautiful Iznik tiles; the Roman Hippodrome; the fabled Topkapi Museum, the imperial residence of the Ottoman Sultans between the 16th and 19th centuries. Welcome to Turkey TURKISH NIGHT.
Day 02) ADANA-ANTAKYA-ADANA
Fly to Tarsus, birthplace of St. Paul. “I am a Jew born in Tarsus in Cilicia” (Acts:22:3). Then continue for Antioch where the followers of Jesus were first called Christians (Acts:11:26). Continue to the famous Mosaic Museum and a brief visit to Seleucia Peria, where St. Paul and St.Barnabas embarked for Cyprus on their first missionary journey (Acts:13:4). Dinner and overnight in Adana.
Day 03) ADANA-CAPPADOCIA
After breakfast depart from Cappadocia. On the way visit Eski Gumus Monastery, one of the finest in the region. Proceed to Kaymakli; an immense rock carved underground city. Dinner and overnight in Cappadocia.
Day 04) CAPPADOCIA
Full day exploring Cappadocia, the land of saints and early Christians. Visit Goreme Open Air Museum with St.Basil’s Chapel, the Church of St.Barbara and Sandal Church. Proceed to Uchisar for pottery ateliers and rug weavers. Dinner and overnight in Cappadocia.
Day 05) CAPPADOCIA-KONYA-PISIDAN ANTIOCH-PAMUKKALE
Longest drive of the tour. Early morning departure for Konya. St. Paul and St.Barnabas both preached here in a synagogue. The city was the home of the whirling dervishes in the 12th century. Visit the Mevlana Mausoleum and his museum. Continue to Pisidan Antioch. It was here that St. Paul changed world history by opening Christianity to the pagan world. Visit the Church of St. Paul, the Roman theater and the Temple of August. Drive to Pamukkale in the late afternoon. Enjoy a leisurely bath in the warm mineral water of your hotel. (Bathing fees extra) Dinner and overnight in Pamukkale.
Day 06) PAMUKKALE-KUSADASI
Morning visit to Pamukkale once known as the ancient Roman thermal city of Hierapolis. The Martyrium of St.Philip the Apostle occurred here. Tour the beautiful, snow-white “frozen waterfalls” see the Roman thermal baths, theater, main streets, gates and Necropolis. Drive to Laodicea, visit the ruins. Next visit Mount Honaz National Park and the Biblical site of Colossea. After lunch, drive to Kusadasi. Dinner and overnight in Kusadasi.
Day 07) KUSADASI-EPHESUS-KUSADASI
Visit the unforgettable classical remains of Ephesus where St. Paul spent 27 months. Drive to Virgin Mary’s House, on a wooded hilltop which was miraculously discovered. Finally visit Ephesus Archeological Museum and St. John’s Basilica. Return to Kusadasi. Dinner and overnight in Kusadasi.
Day 08-15) KUSADASI-BODRUM
Transfer by coach to Bodrum, the yachting capital of Turkey. Here you will board you classic Turkish gulet, built to an ancient design. Sail as Paul did centuries before, only with all modern amenities. Explore the Turkish coast or nearby Greek Islands. The routes are numerous and we will design an itinerary for your group. You voyage includes all meals except two dinners ashore, tea time, use of water toys. A beverage package may be included.
On Saturday, fly to Istanbul. Time for shopping at the Spice Market, Grand Bazaar or get a Turkish bath.
Day 16) ISTANBUL
Day of touring in Istanbul. Galeta Tower, Underground Cistern, Dolmabahce Palace. Farewell dinner
Day 17) ISTANBUL-End of tour
Transfer to Istanbul Airport for your flight home.
Note : There are shopping opportunities in Cappadocia, Ephesus and Istanbul. Attendance is not required.
