This Annular Solar Eclipse Tour 2016 and Safari will only be run once on the 25th August 2016 to 3rd September 2016. It can be tailor–made to meet your preferred activities, group size, and accommodations.  We need 2 to 10 clients to run this tour.  Price is calculated to be between $1995-$2900 depending upon the number of clients. August 25th: Arrival in Antananarivo B
On our first day, we arrive in Antananarivo, the capital city of Madagascar. You will be welcomed and assisted at the airport before being transferred to the city where you will overnight at the Hotel Belvedere.
Distance: 12 miles

August 26: Antananarivo – Andasibe B
After a short tour of Antananarivo, drive to Andasibe through the green and luxuriant vegetation of the east. This first step brings us to the humid part of the country with many primary forests and lakes. Along the way, we will see Merina villages in the rocky mountains. We will stop at Marozevo to visit a Reptile park, home to many species of butterfly, chameleons, frogs etc. We will arrive at Andasibe around 1400h where we will check into our hotel.

Later this evening at approximately 1900h we go on a night time safari along the road near the Reserve of Andasibe to observe the nocturnal active lemurs and other animals. After the safari drive, we go back to the hotel where we overnight.

August 27th : Andasibe B
After breakfast we go on a morning visit to the Special Reserve of Andasibe, to see the Indri, the largest lemurs on the island. This 810 ha reserve is unique with its endemic fauna and flora. It contains a wide variety of orchids, canopy, and endemic animals like chameleons, tenrecs, and many birds. After the visit, we take a relaxing walk through the orchid park to admire all the lovely flowers. In the afternoon, we visit the Lemurs Island where we can get up close and touch some species of lemurs. Then we visit the Andasibe village, a typical Bezanozano village where we connect with the local people, observing how they live, what they eat and what the village life is all about. We then overnight at the same hotel as before.

August 28th: Andasibe – Antananarivo B
We drive back to Antananarivo. Before checking into the hotel, we will visit the Ambohimanga Royal Palace to learn about some of Madagascar’s rich history (UNESCO world heritage site). Guests then have the rest of the day at leisure to spend at the hotel or go into town.

August 29th, Day 5: Antananarivo – Ankarafantsika B
After an early breakfast, we drive to Ankarafantsika National Park (about 9 hours driving) across the savannah plateau and hills of the Highland. We stop at Ankafobe to visit a dry forest where, if lucky enough, you may see some lemurs. After the lunch break (at your own expense) in Maevatanana we continue westward until the Ankarafantsika national park where we overnight.

August 30th: Ankarafantsika B
After breakfast, we embark on a full day visit to the dry forest of Ankarafantsika, which is a den for endangered birds and lemurs. Eight species of lemurs have been observed in Ankarafantsika: one strict diurnal species, two cathemeral species, five typically nocturnal species of which the famous Microcebus, the smallest primate in the world. 129 species of birds nest in the forest of Ankarafantsika. 75 among them are endemic. Ankarafantsika is also home to local endemic reptile species. A total of 10 amphibian and 44 reptiles’ species are recorded within this Park. Few of these species are rare, threatened or limited distribution range. Among the rare species are the horned chameleon (Furcifer rhinoceratus), the dwarf chameleon and freshwater turtle. After this full day of activities, we make our back to our accommodation where we overnight.

August 31st, Day 7: Ampijoroa Ankarafantsika – Majunga B
After breakfast, we set off on a 2-hour drive to Majunga where we check into our hotel and then embark on an afternoon city tour, followed by a short scouting tour in search of the best place to watch the Annular Solar Eclipse.
Distance: 70 miles

September 01: Majunga B
The day we have all been waiting for, Eclipse day! The morning is spent watching and appreciating the masterpiece that is the Solar Eclipse. The afternoon is then free for relaxing or anything guests want to do.

September 02: Majunga – Antananarivo B
After breakfast guests are welcomed to relax in the hotel before a late afternoon transfer to the airport for the flight back to Antananarivo.

September 3rd, DAY 10: Antananarivo B
This morning we visit a handicraft market where guests can observe locals making unique crafts and the perfect place to take home some gifts or souvenirs. We then say our goodbyes and are transferred to the airport for the flight back home.
